That was a lot of fun! So easy-going and light, and the banter was great. I especially loved Jack knowing about John and Rodney and simply accepting it, probably because he's got a hot Daniel warming his bed. Oh yeah, the sex was hot too.

The best thing about AUs is that the boys always find each other no matter what lives they're living, and in this one Destiny rides again. :)

I love the spot on Rodney chatter. I found myself disappointed that the story was over, and wanting more. And it was totally hot. :)

Very well done! I love the slightly AU twist to it, and I adored the beginning, John's list of his first few days. I can only imagine what was happening there before Rodney stepped in, and if O'Neill had designs on him anyway. Also curious how Rodney got everyone intersted in John so quickly! I can only imagine that middle-of-the-night phone call. /grin

A friend helped me with the first part; I do think it's the best part of the story. ;-)

Yes, the late night phone call. I thought it best to leave it up to the reader's imagination.

Thanks for commenting.

Can't you just see that happening? Rodney probably has a little more respect for the military chain of command in canon, but not much. ;-)

I've read, re-read, and re-re-read this in M/I - it's one of my favourites in the 'zine. Poor Rodney; at least John has better taste than those girls.

I think you have their voices down just perfectly - right down to O'Neill's, and IMO he can be hard to write.

Thanks for posting this. =)

Glad you enjoyed it (hope you also have Surfacing).

Funny, but I never really watched much SG-1, so it even surprised me that I could write O'Neill.

Thanks for commenting.

fun with Rod and John

This was lots of fun to read, with a delightful feel of canon like behaviors. Really cool the way that it meshes so well with what we accept as the real deal with the show. I especially liked the take charge behavior from Rodney because that's exactly what he'd do if given the slightest chance.

Nice that you wrote the sex the way you did. It may be a small thing overall but I think it would be a huge thrill for John to be on the receiving end of some very intense Rodney focus. That's a subtle part of his personality that you really wrote beautifully without it being overblown. Very Nice.

I enjoyed this whole story and hope that you're busy writing more!

thanks,
Kouros.

This was one of my favorite stories in Military/Intelligence, and I'm sorry I haven't managed to send feedback yet, even though I've read it over and over..... I even nominated it at MediaWest.

So, uhm, wonderful story. I like John's desperation and Rodney's 'in your face' seduction. I also liked this alternative view to how they meet, and Go Jack! And wonderfully hot sex too.

I hope there's another Military/Intelligence issue, and I hope you write a story for it.

I'm not sure how T'pri feels about doing another issue. I know any number of zine publishers who are giving up on zines, including my own press, Duet Press. Surfacing was our last zine.

As I said, above, I've gone over to the pro side now, and have my firstr novel coming out at Christmas:

I just finished this, and wanted to tell you just how much I adored it. like John, I expected the axe to fall any moment while he hid at the hotel. you managed to make his meeting Rodney both totally in character and surprising - the dentist thing was brilliant (and their night together was hot).

poor John's bewilderment when the call finally came and all his dire expectations came apart before the juggernaut of O'Neill - and then it becoming quite clear O'Neill knew *exactly* how Rodney met John - the "touching things" comments made me roll.

yay! for funny, slightly angsty fic that contains the characters I know and love, just provides a slightly different backstory.

slightly AU canon

I like that. Just left of canon as opposed to those AUs where Rodney's a dragon , and Teyla's a wizard shapeshifter, and John's a flying invisible prince... Although I like those too. ;-)

First, I must mention that Surfacing I - II are still sitting on the top of my zine stack. The pics alone are worth looking at again, and again, and again. After taking home the zines from MediaWest, I treated the stories like the finest chocolates, limiting myself to one or two at a time to make them last. The zines are definitely worth a reread from time to time.

Anyway, this evening I was indulging in one of my 'let Google find me some new stories' searches (I've stumbled across some very cool fics by typing 'SGA' 'John' 'Rodney' followed by descriptive words such as 'unconscious' 'shot' 'blood'. Today's descriptor was 'crash and burn,' and Voila! Here I am!

From the summary and author alone, I knew that this was going to be a good read. I love your Rodney, mouthy and confident and socially inept, and very much in character. For that matter, John/Rodney ought to be considered in character to those of us who have watched the episodes.

You made it so obvious that Rodney and John belong together, especially when you added the ATA bonus that the reader and Rodney were both privy to. It was fun mentally telling John, 'Ha! You can run, but you can't hide!' when he thought he'd run away from Rodney.

Thanks for providing hours of entertaining reading.
